If you are on a busy road, a motorway, or a narrow hard shoulder, it is highly recommended not to attempt a tyre change yourself due to the severe risk of being struck by passing traffic. Never wait inside your vehicle if you are broken down on a high-speed road or motorway, even if the weather is bad. Exit the vehicle safely from the left-hand side, away from moving traffic. Find a secure place to wait well behind the crash barrier or up on a banking, facing oncoming traffic so you can see any approaching danger. If you have a high-visibility vest or jacket in your car, put it on immediately. Keep your hazard lights on so your vehicle remains visible to other drivers, and stay clear of the hard shoulder until the recovery truck has fully arrived and the driver has secured the area.
